Polytechnique math tutoring: matrices, projections and calculus

Your tutor can check your matrix dimensions and follow the calculation with you to find the first unclear step. For least squares, they can explain the residual as the difference between observed and predicted values, then help you check its perpendicularity to the model matrix’s columns. This connects the calculation to why the residual need not be zero.

Applied linear algebra

MTH1008 connects linear systems and matrix factorizations with vector spaces, orthogonality, least squares, eigenvalues and singular-value decomposition. The course guide includes a worked least-squares fit with a residual check.

Calculus course routes

MTH1101 Calcul I includes Taylor approximation, complex numbers, multivariable derivatives and constrained optimization. Use the multivariable guide for partial derivatives and optimization. MTH1102 Calcul II has its own outline; send the chapter and the method your exercise requires before selecting practice.

Physics support for Polytechnique mechanics and fields

Your tutor can review the system and force diagram with you before choosing equations. For an electric-field problem, they can help distinguish the field direction from the force on a particular charge. You can then check the units and physical meaning of your answer together.
