Field and force are not interchangeable
A negative charge is placed in a uniform electric field pointing right. In which direction is the electric force?
Work through the reasoning
Using F = qE, a negative q reverses the field direction, so the force points left. The field describes the source configuration; the force also depends on the test charge. Electric potential is a scalar, while field and force are vectors, so their superposition must be handled differently.
