CEGEP Calculus Tutoring

Prepare for differential and integral calculus in Québec Science programs. Connect algebra, graphs, derivatives and accumulation to the course on your current outline.

Topics covered

Function domains and algebraLimits and continuityDerivatives and their meaningOptimization and ratesDefinite integrals and accumulationIntegration methods and applications

Common difficulties

  • Separating an algebra error from a calculus concept
  • Distinguishing function value, slope and accumulated area
  • Choosing the method when a mixed exercise gives no hint

How tutoring can help

We begin with your actual sequence: differential calculus asks how a quantity changes; integral calculus asks how small contributions accumulate. A graph and units help choose the model before symbolic calculation. Algebra gaps are addressed alongside the new idea, not hidden by a memorized procedure.

Current codes and earlier search terms

These are subject crosswalks for the Science program, not transfer-credit decisions. The prefix matters: 201-SN1 is probability and statistics, while 203-SN1 is mechanics. Local codes and scope vary; your current outline is the reference.

An example that connects the ideas

If position is s(t) = t² metres, its derivative v(t) = 2t m/s describes instantaneous velocity. Integrating v from 1 to 3 seconds gives 8 metres, the displacement s(3) − s(1). Differentiation and integration answer related but different questions.

A question to check understanding

Why is displacement not always total distance? Negative velocity contributes negatively to displacement; total distance accumulates the absolute speed.

Exam preparation

Review with a clear plan.

For differential calculus, mix rule selection with complete optimization setups. For integral calculus, practise choosing bounds, checking antiderivatives and interpreting signed area. Use the current outline to decide whether sequences, series or particular integration techniques are assessed.
